Touch of Power

Touch of Power  by Maria V. Snyder

The review of this book is quite short, but it's awesome enough to go without so many words XD Anyway, here we go!

This book is awesome! It is full of magic, of choices, of love and of wisdom. I really enjoyed reading it. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down, so I went ahead and read the whole day. I just had to finish it :P

I really liked the characters in the book, the heroine was a true courageous young lady and the main male character also developed greatly through out the story. Each character had their own personalities and strengths. The relationships between characters were complicated yet not overly confusing -- everything played out in the end. I enjoyed the writing style and the politics involved in the story. The setting of the story -- the Fifteen Kingdoms reminded me of Graceling, one of my favourite books. A world full of old weaponery and olden-day style travelling.

But I was a little bit confused with the time the book was set in at the beginning. It seemed a little too modern sometimes for a fantasy world setting, but then at times it was just right. It wasn't until quite a while into the book that I was sure of the time it set in.

Anyway, I recommend this book to all of you, it was worthy of the long wait for it. I'm looking forward to read the next book when it comes out next year. :)

Rating: 5 stars

Summary from Goodreads:

Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan absorbs their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Fifteen Realms, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince—leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life...
